Coming back and taking the silver medal in the WOC Long distance after the traumatic relay incident. Also: Winning despite the pressure ; The King of Middle took another WOC Middle Gold medal this year - now arrived at 6 WOC Middle Gold medals.

Story
The King of Middle did it again! After several big disappointments in the spring season, Thierry Gueorgiou came back 100% prepared for the World Orienteering Champs in Hungary, and took his 6th WOC Gold medal over the middle distance - and his 7th individual WOC Gold medal overall. Gueorgiou’s silver medal on the WOC long distance was even more impressive. Only two days after getting his big dream of a WOC Relay Gold medal for France broken in a dramatic way for the second year in a row, the French runner took the silver medal over the Long distance - only beaten by Daniel Hubmann.

Story
You have to think it through before you fully realize it. The list of his achievements is simply breathtaking. Daniel Hubmann is probably the most versatile male-orienteer in the history of our sport. Whether it is a fast sprint, a tough long distance or a technical middle distance, he is always among the best. He doesn’t take exceptions, he runs it all. And runs incredibly well. This year his performance resulted into 12 major victories - from Tiomila and the Nordic Championships up to the overall World Cup and the World Championships.

Winning eight World Championships medals, in both ski- and foot-orienteering. 6 of them gold. Undisputed king of the ski-JWOC in Sweden with 4 victories out of 4 races. Ski-WOC gold, silver and bronze in Japan. And finally the Junior World Champion this summer in the middle distance in Italy.

Story
Six times World Orienteering Champion in a single year, both in ski- and foot-orienteering. He started his amazing year with the ski-JWOC in Sweden, where he left no chances for anyone else by taking 4 gold medals in all 4 disciplines. He then continued to fly on his skis in Japan at the World Championships, where he took a full set of medals from all three races, where he stepped on the start line: bronze in the long, silver in the sprint and an amazing gold in the middle. With the melting snow and the skiing season coming to an end, he changed his skis to orienteering shoes in order to get ready for his last JWOC. He outclassed the strong field of competitors and won the gold, the sixth gold of the year!

Being the dominating orienteer in the spring the season. Winning the Nordic Championships middle distance and relay, as well as winning as the World Cup middle distance in Norway. Also: taking bronze in the overall World Cup.

Story
When the season begun he was literally flying and in combination with his excellent orienteering skills no one in Sweden could get even close to him. At the Nordic championships in Finland he was impressive: He won the middle distance and as an anchorman brought the relay gold to Sweden. Only a week after the NOC he won the World Cup middle distance in Norway. The rest of the season had its ups and downs, however in the end, the steady performance proved to be worth the bronze of the overall World Cup.

Coming out from the shadows of the big Swiss stars, taking a surprising Silver medal in the World Championships Sprint.

Story
- I started the WOC sprint qualification with enormous self confidence. The secret behind Fabian Hertner’s self confidence was 3.5 weeks high altitude training camp followed by 3 weeks of training focused fully on the Sprint discipline. Fabian Hertner has been in the shadows of the big Swiss stars - Daniel Hubmann and Matthias Merz - for years. He has been showing his very big potential at regular intervals - JWOC gold on middle in 2005, 9th spot in EOC sprint in 2006, several extremely good races at less important occasions - but missing that little something required for the really great performance.
